Glitches Abound, and More

Now that I can retrieve media from my 3DS much more efficiently, I have some pics\vids for you.
Yes, this happened! A long time ago though.

I've never been able to do this, except once or twice...same goes for the Mappy bonus round.
I haven't played Galaga in a while, come to think of it. The Famicom's been distracting me from every other retro system.
Also, I'd like to exhibit some of the many glitches you find with old systems:
Yeah, what the heck right? LoZ has given me much weirder before.
This was also weird.

My Famicom games usually come in need of cleaning - Dr. Mario and Xevious(read on!) didn't even start before a rigorous cleaning session. Mario Bros. worked, but had some weird pro pros at first.
I mentioned Dr. Mario earlier...here is one of the happenings.
This one was a while back...it's never happened again. Yeah, my SMB is pretty glitchy. One time when it has, thankfully, worked well was when I beat it recently. I have a video of that, in fact, but on VHS. Yeah.
--Non-glitch topic--
So, the Super Famicom. Right?
I got it a while back and always forget about it...anyway here's pix
The thing itself. Luckily, I got it with everything I needed- controller, AV, power(the power thing looks just like the FDS power thing for some reason...). Also, I think my 3DS might be taking smaller pictures...this is the new original size.
The first 2 games I got for it. I got them as a set, actually.
Unfortunately, SMK seems to be broken...the track won't render. F-Zero is also weird - it's possible to play, but the track looks REALLY weird. I should take a video.
Also - when moving a TV a while back, I crushed the SFC's AV jacks(TV end)...AUGH. At least there are a few solutions.
(-Borrow NES\FC RF switch
-Use another Nintendo AV thing[SNES through GC are all the same{why did they change it for the Wii?}]
-Just get a new one)

Next time - I probably talk about Famicom games.

Minor note

I have found that SD card thing I lost...prepare for more pictures.

M'Famicom...*tips fedora*

Guess what, the FDS has been here and I got some Famicom news,,,

Games are now super-duper cheap due to the kindness of famicomblog.blogspot.com who sells them at wonderful prices! (Notably though they take a while to get here since he lives in Japan)

Acquisitions:
-FDS with disk that has SMB2\Volleyball(I was right about SMB2 being the one that is LL in America)
-Pac-Land
-Dragon Buster
-Photon\Foton The Ultimate Game on Planet Earth

Turns out, SMB2 does not have a 2P mode, just one where you play as Luigi(who runs faster and jumps higher but has super-slippery controls).
Volleyball kind of sucks and is super hard don't buy it

Pac-Land is weird. For one thing I thought my copy was broken because the controls are weird africk

Yo tell me if this alt text works (2)
By jumping at different places before the BREAK TIME sign, you can get bonuc points. Here: 10
500
1,000
I actually have gotten 7,650 once but alas I couldn't get a picture in time...
Did I mention it's a bit prone to glitches?
HELLO DIRK. I'D LIKE TO PLAY A HuMAN GAME. CALLED. "PAC-LAND."
And also, once it showed up entirely in black and white.
Yeah. (Sorry my phone catches the TV refreshing >.<)
I'd also like to note it's VERY HARD. This is the farthest I've gotten:
The level with the water and stuff.
And THIS is a killer:
FRICKING TRAMPOLINE THING
I don't have any pictures of Dragon Buster or Photon, but believe me, DB is amazing. I've played it a lot.
Foton kind of sucks. I love the cartridge, and it looks interesting, but it's hard and confusing and kind of boring.

Also, I suck at Mario Bros. and my highscore is 70490
Also, now that my Famicom works, I've put some time into the Gundam games.
My high score on Hot Scramble.
The #3 one, part of a minigame. Here I somehow gave this guy 9999 HP. A bug maybe?
I hate glitch lines.
Notes: Lode Runner I got for Christmas, if I didn't already say so in my last post. Also, side B of the FDS disk has Volleyball, if you forgot. Also: accessories left out.
I hope to post more later!

Short update

I have purchased and received copies of Dr. Mario and Mario Bros. on regular cartridge for the FC. Both work very well, although Dr. Mario required vigorous pin cleaning first.
I got videos of some very interesting graphical glitches while playing MB! I hope to get those up soon.
-And I'm out

One new thing or two...

SO SORRY for the lack of updates, here and on my normal blog >.<
I have lots of new stuff since last, but here I'm just going to do a quick recap instead of my normal in-depth thing.
-For Christmas, I got Lode Runner for the NES. It's a nice game.
-I have obtained a working Super Famicom with F-Zero, Star Fox, and Super Mario Kart. For some reason F-0 is pretty weird, the track renders oddly, I will have to troubleshoot it. Also, SMK doesn't register the track any more, which is weird. It used to do that, but not now...lame.
-I have bought a WORKING, NEW BELT(aw yiss) Famicom Disk System with a disk containing SMB2(not sure if this is the actual FC SMB2 or just SM USA, I'll be happy for either) as well as cartridge copies of Mario Bros. and Dr. Mario. (Apparently there's no disk version of Dr. Mario that I found. Weird.)
-I have got the Famicom working! Here I'll tell the story. Just this once.
So when I bought the FDS(which was in the middle of class, actually - I had spare time in IED and was browsing eBay), I realized later that it would be near useless without a working Famicom. Thus begun my quest to fix the Famicom. I had the idea that maybe I could buy a broken one online for cheap and mix together parts to get one working Famicom with some spare parts. Good idea, right? I even thought I knew which part was bad. (Since the odd ripply B&W effect was mainly visuals, I figured it was the PPU.) But my parents advised I ask online before buying more crap. Also a good idea. So off I internet'd to Famicom World(I so should have made an account earlier, it's a really great forum) and asked away in Technical Repair\Assistance. The best reply I got said to jiggle some part of the RF switch. I didn't think that would do anything, but I hadn't tried before. I tried that, of course it didn't work. But then, to see if the RFS was really the problem, I tried mixing things up with working parts - the SFC, a working console that could use RF, the NES, another, and the NES RF switch. Combos:
SFC, NES RF, TV 2 = bad
SFC, Famicom RF, TV 2 = bad
SFC, AV, TV 2 = good
NES, Famicom RF, TV 1 = good
NES, NES RF, TV 1 = good (Why did I even try this one?)
FC, Famicom RF, TV 1, = bad
FC, NES RF, TV 1 = bad
All the bad hookups had one thing in common: A JP system using RF. Looking online, sure enough, US and JP have very different frequencies. Something said to turn to around channel 96, so I tried that. At first it was the same crap results I got from channel 6, which is what I used before(it gave the closest results). I fiddled with the CH1-CH2(or whatever it says) switch, trying to get a good channel, until I accidentally, as I remember it, got the switch stuck between the two channels. It worked! Somehow. All the games worked like perfectly(and still do[although that doesn't say much considering this whole episode was just days ago]), except one which was probably a dud anyway as it showed a gray screen.

So there you go. I think I've gotten some high scores too probably, but ww\eh. I hope to update soon with pictures! (Which are now much easier to get! Not only did I get an SD-USB adapter[which is currently lost actually], but I now have a phone, and its photos are much easier to export.)

Minor post - High score in Pinball!

Not much has happened, just posting this picture of a particularly high (for me) Pinball score.
(Note: I'm player 2.) My friend and I were playing yesterday and one round, I just started having all the luck, racking up points like no joke, and so he used his phone to take a picture of the final score. (I couldn't find my 3DS.) The highest score on Vizzed is 342,880. (I can't find any better scoreboard for some reason.) I'm pretty good at some games, but I want to be able to get world records...

Biiig Update!

I haven't posted here in a while. Merry Christmas! Happy late new year! Happy Thanksgiving! Happy Halloween? Happy birthday to my little brother! Happy groundhog day! Happy birthday to my other brother! Happy birthday to another brother! (No kidding.) And probably more. This is a big write-up of my retro antics since my last post. A lot's happened. Not in the pictures: I finally got to world 2 of VB Wario Land!! Turns out, to beat that boss, you just dodge its attacks, and when you can, jump on it. Do that three times. I think 3 is just a rule-bound recurring number in these games. Three lives, three hits to beat the boss, sometimes three levels to a world. Anyway, enough with the text. Onto pictures that anyone can see!.....Accompanied by caption text.
Topic 1: Misc. Stuff
I'm splitting this post into topics like in its Not Epic But Awesome (NEBA for short) equivalent.
Once a friend and I played Pinball and got a lot of super bonus stuff. It ended in these guys replacing the normal penguins.

Looks like we even got 333 lined up.

Great story here. Does ROB look a little different from the last post he was in(which, sadly, was a while ago)? If so, that's because he actually is. If not, please go and check again. Why? Turns out, he's secretly been wearing sunglasses the entire time! Major discovery! Apparently, ROB (and probably Famicom Robot) units came with special sunglasses to be fitted over the eyes in the case of overly bright light. I guess my unit's previous owner had a very bright TV. Anyway, I found out because one day, I was bored and searched for 'robotic operating buddy' or something on eBay. Some of the listings were for his sunglasses, which I'd never seen before in other searches. I did some looking and found out about them. My ROB had always had hard-to-see eyes and no ridges in between, so I figured it was wearing sunglasses. I took my Gunpla-decal-ing tool and pried them off. To my glee, I was right! He looks way cooler with them off. (Related link here. See the end of the 2nd paragraph. http://everything2.com/title/R.O.B.)
I found a Famicom in Moonphase. Details at NEBA.
I got this game called Scoot Or Die - Bad'N'Rad from Goodwill for like $7-8. Sounds like a crappy deal, right? It's actually worth a buck more than I paid according to rarityguide.com. It's also a pretty cool game.
Topic 2: Dimple Records
On Boxing Day(look at your calendar), I and some family members went to Dimple Records, a cool place to buy used DVDs, games (retro and new!), some new toys and board games, and more. Before that, we'd gone to A-1 Comics, where I got an MG Gunpla (see NEBA) with my new $100(!!). I had enough left to get some MSG(as in Gundam, not bad things to put in food) on DVD and a game. Actually, the game was a different trip. These pics are from one of those trips, except for the Jack Nicklaus stuff.

I found some real nice games in the GBA racks. Here's two Super Mario Advances.

Even a Namco Museum(50th anniversary)! Unforgivable! (Referring to whoever got rid of the game) That game has like 10 games in it! I would've bought it if I had the money! (Sorry about the angle, I was taking this pic more for my 3DS than the blog)

Classic NES Series - Pac-Man. OK, I say it's possible for someone not to want this game. Why did the NES/FC Pac-Man have the colors it has? The fruits are monochrome and the ghosts have two colors each, despite the hardware allowing for 3 colors to an object.

Pac-Man Collection! Another one that they should've kept for road trips.

Super Mario World and Namco Museum. How do you give up Super Mario World?
Now onto the Jack Nicklaus part. I got this game at Dimple as I said before. Turn out, it's kinda good and kinda lame.
Here's what I think is a Let's Play video. It's split into two parts because my 3DS stops at 10 minutes. Why am I now able to record multiple 10-minute videos as you'll see later? I got a new SD card with 8x the space of the one that came with my 3DS. Details at NEBA. Unfortunately, the first section caused an upload error with Blogger, so I'm uploading it in a compilation of the two parts to YouTube. Here's a link.

Topic 3: Old Town Pizza (OTP for short[Not to be confused with One True Pairing])
Old Town Pizza, a pizza place in the city I live in, has this awesome cocktail-style Ms. Pac-man/Galaga 25th anniversary machine. But for whatever reason, they at one point converted it to an "iCade" multigame thing with an LCD monitor. I play it just about every time I go. It saves high scores, even!
It even has the Japanese release of 1943.

Here's what it looks like.

Whose high score is this?

Oh, that's right. Mine.

Now another one.

I didn't beat my best, but I beat my second best.

Now whose high score is this?

Oh, that's right. Also mine.

Same here. (What's with the sidewaysness?)

Not mine. I'm not a big Qix fan.
Topic 4: Goodwill Namco Plug'N'Plays Sometimes I get stuff from Goodwills, like the Hyperscan. Since the last post, I got two Namco Plug'N'Plays. One was the famous Jakks Ms. Pac-Man one, and the other was an unfamiliar one.
Here they are side by side. Left: The crazy glitchtown oddball on drugs. Right: The Ms. Pac-Man one. We'll be looking at the broken one first.
Here's what the side looks like.

This is the menu.

Does this look like normal Dig Dug to you? It might be a little different.

And by a little, I mean a lot. What the crap? This pictures still doesn't do it justice. I'm attaching a video below.
I think this video includes me talking, but I'm not sure. I know the (New?) Rally-X one does and maybe Pac-Man. Warning: I'll most likely sound like a dork in his and following videos. Next, (New?) Rally-X.
Unfortunately, the Pac-Man video caused an upload error with Blogger, so I'm uploading it to YouTube. Here's a link.
Here's the side of the Ms. Pac.

Note the $3^00 written in marker on top. Somehow, this great working one cost less than the crazy one.
At first, this one was glitchy too (see that green side?) to a scary extent. I tried to start Mappy, then it started, but the colors were mesed up and this one weird sound kept playing. When Goro or Mappy (I forgot which one it was, maybe Goro I think) reached the edge of the screen during the opening thing, the graphics glitched and the music stopped with the noise still playing.
Either something's wrong here, or I'm proud I got to round 8. I don't remember.
Wahoo! High score!

This is just a video of the name entry.
Another glitch - a white roof.

In level 1, apparently.
Here's a 2-part playthrough of the games on it. I had it all in a half-hour-video, but it caused an upload error, and I couldn't get it on YT because of the length. I'd just increase the maximum length, but that requires verifying a phone number, and I don't have a cell phone. I split that video in 2 at around the 15-minute mark (in case there was another error) and these were the result.
OK, that's about everything that happened for now. Well, everything that belongs here anyway. Thanks for following this blog.
